Description: learned about and read from various pioneers in the field of linguistic anthropology including Bucholtz, Hall, Duranti, Barrett, etc.; explored the ways different cultures communicate with each other and specifically in contrast to U.S. societies; learned about the core concepts of indexicality, performance, and agency; explored Peirce’s theory of semiotics and the concept of signs; incorporated learned concepts in a course-long project where I was tasked with recording a conversation in daily life and applying these anthropological concepts to gather more research for supporting or negating these concepts
